"Like A Motorway was written for our folk meets techno album Tiger Bay and came out as a single exactly 27 years ago today. The vocal melody comes from the ballad Silver Dagger but I went with a gloomier approach for the lyrics. I'm pretty sure I was influenced by a Joyce Carol Oates short story as I was really into her writing at the time, I also remember that I thought that my then girlfriend Jane's foundation smelled like pebbles - so that made it into the lyric too!"
