Saint Etienne Present Songs for the Dog and Duck, a new compilation curated by the band. This compilation, the second in a series (the first was "Songs for Mario's Café" released back in 2004) is one of the most eclectic compilations to appear on Ace in recent years. The compilation is a tribute to the Soho pubs that have proved fertile ground for musicians, publishers and general pop-obsessed layabouts. The Dog & Duck specifically was the pub of choice for the Heavenly label, an annexe of the office on Frith Street. When they moved out of Soho this spring they left Soho with a single record company HQ. So, this is is a soundtrack for a session in the Dog & Duck (or the Blue Posts, or the Ship), a jukebox selection to reflect the characters and conversations taking place a stones throw from Denmark Street, the 2 I's, and the 100 Club; totemic locations in British pop history. The CD is out on November 2 on Ace Records. Check out their website for more details. The item has been added to the CD Compiling and Liner Note Production By St Etienne section of the site |

Exclusive new EP called Trumpton Comes Alive has been released through the fanclub as a freebee through a special website. The EP features three live versions of previous Saint Etienne singles Lose That Girl, Like A Motorway, and How We Used To LiveHere's what the band said: Here are three, collected on an EP we've wittily called TRUMPTON COMES ALIVE. Lose That Girl was recorded in Barcelona, at the Wintercase festival in 2002; a florid version (ten mins plus, verging on Supper's Ready territory) of How We Used To Live comes from the Route De Rock show in 2000; and Like A Motorway was recorded at the legendary Royal Festival Hall 'test' concert in 2007. We'll get some artwork together for you to download next week. You can get it here while it lasts. The single has been added to the Fan Club section of the site. |
